Bluebeam Tip: Standardize Revision Clouds for Clearer Drawing Reviews

Revision clouds make drawing changes immediately visible, helping reviewers focus on what has changed instead of searching an entire sheet. In Bluebeam Revu, a consistent cloud-markup workflow can make every revision clearer, faster to review, and easier to track.

To add a cloud, select the Cloud tool from the Shapes or Markup toolbar, then click and drag around the revised area. Keep the cloud close to the actual change without covering critical dimensions, notes, or linework.

• Use a consistent revision color: Red is common for active design changes, while other colors can identify disciplines, review rounds, or responsible teams.
• Add a clear label: Pair the cloud with a text box, callout, or revision delta that explains the reason for the change, such as “Rev. 2—Door width revised.”
• Set Subject and Label properties: In the Properties panel, assign meaningful values such as “Architectural Revision” or “Client Comment.” This makes cloud markups easier to filter in the Markups List.
• Save the style to a Tool Chest: Once a cloud has the preferred color, line weight, opacity, and subject, add it to a custom Tool Set. Your team can then apply the same visual standard on every drawing.
• Use statuses for accountability: Track each clouded item as Accepted, Rejected, Completed, or another custom status. Reviewers can quickly identify unresolved revisions.

For a more connected annotation, consider using Cloud+ when available. Cloud+ combines a revision cloud with a callout-style text area, reducing the need to create separate markups and keeping the explanation attached to the revised location.

Before issuing a drawing set, open the Markups List and filter by Subject, Status, Author, or color to confirm that every revision cloud has been addressed. This simple quality-control step helps prevent missed comments and unclear scope changes.
