Filleting solid edges is one of the fastest ways to make 3D models look more realistic, manufacturable, and professionally finished. In AutoCAD, the FILLETEDGE command applies a rounded transition between faces on a 3D solid, replacing a sharp edge with a specified radius.
Unlike the 2D FILLET command, which rounds the intersection of lines, arcs, or polylines, FILLETEDGE works directly on solid geometry. It is particularly useful for mechanical parts, product concepts, fabricated components, and architectural details where sharp corners are undesirable.
FILLETEDGE at the Command line, or locate it from the Solid Editing tools in the 3D Modeling workspace.A practical workflow is to build the basic solid first, then apply fillets near the end of the modeling process. For example, create a plate with EXTRUDE or PRESSPULL, cut openings with SUBTRACT, and apply edge fillets after the main geometry is complete. This approach keeps your model simpler while you are still making major dimensional changes.

Fillets are not only aesthetic. In manufactured parts, rounded edges can reduce stress concentration, improve handling safety, support tooling requirements, and better reflect real-world fabrication methods. If a fillet does not work, undo the attempt and check the solid’s geometry. Try a smaller radius, remove conflicting nearby features, or apply the fillet before adding another cut or union. You can also use UNDO strategically and save incremental versions before making extensive solid edits.
