Need a fast, visual way to spot changes between plan revisions? Overlay Pages color-codes each revision on a single sheet so differences stand out instantly.
- Open: Document > Comparison > Overlay Pages.
- Add PDFs: Click Add, choose the “older” then the “newer” revision. Assign distinct Colors and Layer Names. Enable Create Layers and Add Legend.
- Align: Try Auto Align. If geometry doesn’t line up, select Align Points and pick three identical locations on each sheet (grid intersections, column lines, or fixed corners).
- Review: Revu generates a new PDF with each revision on its own layer. Use the Layers panel to toggle visibility and the Legend to decode colors.
Pro tips for cleaner, more accurate overlays:
- Normalize first: Confirm matching page size/rotation, Calibrate both files, and Flatten markups to avoid misalignment from editable annotations.
- Color strategy: Set Previous = Gray, Current = Blue, Proposed = Magenta. Avoid red/green combinations for accessibility.
- Improve visibility: Enable Thicken Lines (View menu) or adjust line weights; temporarily hide dense hatches or images to reduce noise.
- Drill down: Use Snapshot to capture change areas for RFIs or reports; add callouts and statuses so items roll up in the Markups List.
- Double-check with Compare: Pair Overlay Pages with Compare Documents to auto-cloud differences, then refine context with the overlay layers.
- Scale across sets: Use Batch > Overlay Pages (available in higher tiers) to process whole plan sets. Match by Page Label, leverage Sets for consistent naming, and include a legend on every page.
- Share: Save the overlay as a new PDF, add it to a Set, or drop it into a Studio Session for live review.
