3ds Max has been around for a very long time. Unfortunately, so has some of the base spaghetti code that runs this god forsaken piece of software. If I'd hazard a guess it would be that the engineers at Autodesk has no idea how all the old code works and the ones that once knew have since retired. It's an incredibly unstable, buggy kit that feels dated in every way compared to some of it's competitor. Don't get me wrong. It's very powerful and can do basically anything 3D related, although sometimes with the help of plugins. But it's a nightmare to use and I hate it with a burning passion. Unfortunately if you're working in some 3D related fields you're going to just have to suck it up and use it anyway because the competitors are either lacking things 3ds has or doesn't have enough resources online.
I'm a 3D Graphic/Scenic Designer, and i work on huge auditoriums and interiors all day long so having a program with seamless workflow is a must, and 3DS Max does just that. It has a great selection of build in material libraries, and the ability to customize your workspace makes your work that must faster. This program comes highly recommended from me.
It literally took several months of e-mails back and forth with Autodesk to receive confirmation that my old serial # was eligble for an upgrade. Autodesk continually gave conflicting information, that my serial was eligible, and then it wasn't.
Great 3d modeling/ animation program. The subscription has a lot of helpful tools and tutorials.
Once I finally did received the package I found it GREAT!

The new modeling tools are very helpful, and there is à good viewport enhancement, we can now display with soft shadows and ambiant occlusion.
It seem to be à little slow than the previous version, but anyway, I love it.
I haven't tested it too far, but this is a great release for 3DSMAX users.
