Lands Design, Taking Landscape Design to the Next Level

Novedge : Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do.

Novedge: Speaking of developement, can you talk about the newly developed plugin Lands Design?

Francesc Salla:   Lands Design is a professional plugin that works on top of Rhino and AutoCAD. It provides BIM tools for the Landscape Design field and produces 2D technical drawings, 3D models and photorealistic renders.

Novedge: How is Lands Design used?

Francesc Salla:   Lands Design is mostly used for   Landscape Architecture, but it can also be utilized for Green Infrastructure, Forestry, Urban Planning or for the creation of rendering materials when generating an environment for computer graphics (CG) artists. You can create 2D and 3D game assets to be used in developing video games, 3D visualization, and digitally animated films.

Lands Design gives you the power to add vertical gardens, green roofs and green areas to your Architectural and Civil Engineering projects. Lands Design's powerful terrain, forest and irrigation tools accompanied with hardscape tools, can be used in the design process and modeling of forests in the silviculture sector. BIM technology visualizes seasonal change and annual growth of plants. In introducing plants as essential natural elements in Urban Planning projects, Lands Design helps you design public spaces, lets you choose the adequate plant selection and visualize the urban area in different seasons.

Novedge: What are some of Lands Design's best tools?

Francesc Salla:   I would say the terrain modeling tools; the BIM/LIM features to work with parametric elements and have quantity take off; the extensive plant database, which by the way, are totally customizable; the link to Grasshopper for automating tasks, and many more. 

Novedge: Lands Design works with both Rhino and AutoCAD. How does Lands Design take advantage of the best features of these two programs?

Francesc Salla:   For what concerns Rhino, Lands Design takes full advantage of Rhino capabilities with both 3D and free-form shapes and, of course, the link with Grasshopper. With AutoCAD, Lands Design takes advantage of the great 2D set of drafting tools and the potential for managing large dwg files. 

Novedge: What rendering plugins can you use with Lands Design?

 Francesc Salla:   Lands Design is compatible with most rendering plugins, as long as they are compatible with Rhino or AutoCAD.
