Streamline Your Collaboration Efforts with DraftSight's Pack and Go Feature

In the current era, collaboration has become an essential part of most projects. While cloud-based collaboration platforms like Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE offer real-time access to files and projects for all stakeholders, they may not always be the ideal choice for everyone. For instance, you might find yourself needing to share files the old-fashioned way - through emails.

With DraftSight, you can do more than just sending a DWG file. Your drawing might be associated with other files such as reference files, fonts that may not be available to your recipient, or even plotting configuration files. To ensure that your recipient can fully utilize and understand the drawing, all these associated files need to be correctly identified and gathered.

Imagine the effort required in identifying and organizing these files, especially when dealing with large projects involving hundreds of files. Thankfully, DraftSight’s Pack and Go feature is a tool that does all the legwork for you.

A Closer Look at Pack and Go

If you are a DraftSight Premium user, you can use the Pack and Go feature in two ways. It is available from the Premium’s Sheet Set Manager, where it can be used to gather sheets from an entire project, specified subsets, or even individually selected sheets. However, when using it from the Sheet Set Manager, you’re limited to only the sheets (and associated files) in that sheet set project.

It is also available as a standalone command in both DraftSight Premium and Professional. As a standalone function, it includes an “add file” button, which allows you to select any files you want to include in the package.

The feature offers flexibility in creating your package. You can create a zip file or a set of files, change the DWG file format if necessary, run the Clean command on the drawings, and even bind references. The pathing options provided are crucial in handling the references. If you use relative paths for your references, you will appreciate the organized folder structure, where you can even specify the root folder path. If you don’t use relative paths, you can choose to maintain all files and folders as they are.

Wrapping Up

Thanks to the Pack and Go feature in DraftSight, manual identification, finding, and gathering of every file that a drawing needs have become obsolete. With DraftSight Premium, you get the best of both worlds by using the Sheet Set Manager along with the Pack and Go feature.
