Bluebeam Tip: Standardize PDF Sets with Bluebeam Revu Headers and Footers

Headers and footers are a fast, reliable way to add consistent project information across an entire PDF set in Bluebeam Revu. Use them to identify drawings, control revisions, and make printed or shared documents easier to track.

To begin, open Document > Headers & Footers > Add. Revu provides separate left, center, and right text areas for both the header and footer, allowing you to build a clear information layout without manually editing every sheet.

  • Use dynamic fields: Insert fields such as page number, total page count, file name, print date, and document title. Dynamic fields update automatically, reducing the chance of outdated information.
  • Apply to a page range: Choose whether the header and footer should appear on all pages, selected pages, odd pages, or even pages. This is especially useful for large bid sets with cover sheets or divider pages that should remain clean.
  • Set margins carefully: Position text inside unused sheet margins so it does not cover title blocks, notes, or drawing content. Preview several sheet sizes before applying changes across the document.
  • Match project standards: Select a readable font, size, and color that follows your company’s documentation requirements. Keep the added information visible but secondary to the drawing itself.
  • Include revision control data: A footer can contain “Issued for Review,” a revision date, or a distribution label. This helps recipients immediately identify the purpose and status of the PDF.

For recurring workflows, standardize the wording and placement your team uses. For example, place the file name at the lower left, page numbering in the center, and issue date at the lower right. Consistency makes multi-page drawing packages easier to navigate and audit.

Before final delivery, inspect representative pages at full size and in print preview. If the PDF set changes later, return to Document > Headers & Footers to edit or remove the applied content rather than recreating the file.
