Bluebeam Tip: Reorder, Extract, and Split Pages in Bluebeam Revu

Today’s tip focuses on extracting and reordering PDF pages in Bluebeam Revu—fast, reliable, and traceable.

Reorder pages with precision:

  • Open the Thumbnails panel (Panels > Thumbnails) and drag-and-drop pages to a new position.
  • Use multi-select (Shift/Ctrl) to move groups of pages together.
  • Right-click in Thumbnails for quick actions: Insert Pages, Replace Pages, Rotate Pages, Delete Pages.
  • Create Page Labels first (Right-click in Thumbnails > Create Page Labels > From Bookmarks or Page Region) so your sheet names drive navigation and downstream linking.

Extract pages cleanly:

  • Go to Document > Extract Pages (or right-click selection in Thumbnails > Extract Pages).
  • Choose All, Selected, or a Range (e.g., 3–5, 8, 12–end).
  • Options worth enabling:
    • Use Page Labels as File Names for clear output.
    • Extract Pages as Separate Files if delivering individual sheets.
    • Delete Pages After Extracting when you’re intentionally splitting a set.
  • Markups remain with extracted pages (unless flattened). Flatten first only if recipients must not edit annotations.

Accelerate multi-file workflows:

  • Document > Split Document to break large PDFs by page count, top-level bookmarks, or page labels—ideal for bid packages.
  • Need to insert updated sheets while preserving markups and hyperlinks? Use Document > Slip Sheet (or Batch Slip Sheet in Revu eXtreme) to replace pages and carry forward review history.

Quality checks after changes:

  • Rebuild hyperlinks with Batch > Batch Link (use Page Labels for robust detection).
  • Verify bookmarks: right-click > Set Destination to update any that moved.
  • In Studio Projects, check out the PDF before page operations; check in with a clear revision note.

Pro tip: Keep a pre-change copy for audit, then name the new file with a date or revision suffix. For licensing, training, or team rollouts, consult NOVEDGE. Looking to standardize page naming and automation across your firm? Talk to NOVEDGE about Bluebeam best practices and deployment.
