Bluebeam Tip: Create and Manage Reusable Markups with the Tool Chest

Save frequently used markups as reusable tools to standardize reviews, speed takeoffs, and keep teams aligned.

• Style once, reuse forever: Create a markup (callout, cloud, symbol, measurement), then set color, line weight, fill/opacity, font, and leader style in the Properties Toolbar. Add a clear Subject and Comment to drive organization and tooltips.
• Save to the Tool Chest: Right‑click your markup > Add to Tool Chest > choose a Tool Set, or simply drag it into the desired Tool Set panel.
• Choose behavior per tool: Right‑click the saved tool and toggle between Drawing Mode (places the exact object) and Properties Mode (applies only its appearance to what you draw next).
• Place rapidly: Enable Reuse in the Properties Toolbar to keep the tool active for multiple placements. Press Esc to exit.
• Measurements that report right: Calibrate the page first. Set Precision, Units, and Caption/Label display options, then save—your measurement tool will remember these visual settings for consistent outputs.
• Smarter counts: Build a clean symbol (optionally group with a transparent click‑target) and save it. If you need auto-numbering, convert the tool into a Sequence and define your numbering format.
• Keep it organized: Create dedicated Tool Sets per trade/phase, reorder tools by frequency, and use meaningful Subjects to keep the Markups List sortable and report-ready.
• Lock in standards: After placing a correctly styled markup, right‑click > Set as Default. This complements your Tool Chest tool and prevents “style drift.”
• Share and safeguard: Export Tool Sets (.btx) for backups and team distribution, or host them in Studio Projects. Add version/date tags to filenames for clarity.
