Bluebeam Tip: Control Shared Tool Sets in Bluebeam Studio

Standardize your markups by controlling who can change shared Tool Sets in Bluebeam Studio.

  • Publish a master Tool Set (.btx) to Studio Projects
    • In Revu, Tool Chest > Manage Tool Sets > Export to create your master .btx.
    • Upload the .btx to a “Standards/Tool Sets” folder in a Studio Project.
    • Right-click the folder in the Project > Permissions: grant View/Download to users and Upload/Edit/Delete/Set Permissions to admins only.
    • Optional: make the .btx read-only (via Windows properties before upload or when managed through Bluebeam Drive) to reinforce protection.
  • Distribute without losing control
    • Revu 21+: Use Bluebeam Drive to access the Project folder as a Windows path.
    • End users: Tool Chest > Manage Tool Sets > Add > Existing > browse to the .btx in the Studio Project (via Bluebeam Drive) and add it.
    • Revu treats read‑only Tool Sets as locked; users can use tools but must save edits as a new, personal Tool Set—your master remains unchanged.
  • Update on your terms
    • Admins revise the unlocked source, replace the .btx in the Project, and note changes in a simple “Change Log” PDF stored alongside it.
    • Users get updates on Revu restart or by opening Manage Tool Sets and reloading the set.
  • Best-practice governance
    • Prefix Tool Set names with discipline and version (e.g., “MEP_Rev03_2026‑07”).
    • Use Properties Mode in tools to enforce brand colors, line weights, Subjects, and custom columns.
    • Pair with a role-based Profile stored in the same Studio Project for one-click onboarding.
    • Test permissions with a non-admin account before announcing updates.
