Bluebeam Tip: Automated Page Numbering in Bluebeam Revu for Multi-Sheet PDFs

Automatic page numbers make multi-sheet PDFs easier to reference, review, print, and distribute. In Bluebeam Revu, use Headers & Footers to apply consistent numbering across an entire document or selected page range without manually editing each sheet.

  • Open the PDF and choose Document > Headers & Footers > Add. For larger document batches, use the batch-processing option when available in your Revu edition.
  • Select the placement for the number: top or bottom, left, center, or right. Bottom-right is often a clear choice for reports, while bottom-center works well for general document packages.
  • Use the dialog’s Page Number option to insert an automatically updating number field. Avoid typing static numbers; dynamic numbering remains accurate if pages are inserted, removed, or reordered later.
  • Set the page range carefully. For example, exclude a cover page from visible numbering while allowing the next page to display “Page 1.”
  • Choose a readable font, size, color, and margins that do not interfere with title blocks, stamps, or drawing content.
  • Include supporting information when useful, such as the document name, issue date, project number, or a “Page X of Y” format.

Before applying the header or footer to the full PDF, preview the placement on representative pages. Check portrait and landscape sheets, pages with different crop sizes, and sheets containing title blocks near the edge. This quick verification prevents numbers from being clipped or obscuring critical information.

For controlled deliverables, save a copy before applying page numbers. This preserves an unnumbered source file while creating a distribution-ready version for clients, consultants, or field teams. If a revision changes the page sequence, reopen Headers & Footers and update the numbering rather than rebuilding the PDF manually.

Consistent numbering is a small document-control step that makes coordination significantly easier—especially when reviewers reference comments, RFIs, submittals, or printed pages. Find Bluebeam Revu solutions at NOVEDGE to support more efficient PDF review and project-document workflows.
