Set up title blocks that auto-populate and stay consistent across sheets to cut admin time and reduce errors.
- Start with a template: File > New PDF from Template. If needed, build one from a clean sheet and your logo/title block artwork.
- Put the graphic frame on its own layer: Layers panel > Add Layer “TitleBlock”; lock it to prevent accidental edits. Use Guides and Snap to Content for precise alignment.
- Add form fields for user-entered data: Tools > Form > Text Box/Dropdown. Typical fields: Project, Sheet Title, Sheet No., Revision, Drawn By, Checked By, Issue Date. Name them consistently (e.g., TB.Project, TB.SheetNo).
- Pre-format fields: set font, alignment, character limits, and date formats. Mark critical fields as Required to catch omissions later.
- Insert auto fields via Header & Footer: Document > Header & Footer > Add. Use Insert to place dynamic values (Date, Time, File Name, Page Number, Page Label, User). Position them to land inside your title block cells.
- Make page labels drive your sheet index: Thumbnails panel > Create Page Labels (AutoMark) > From Page Region. Draw regions over Sheet No. and Title, then build a pattern like “<$1> — <$2>.” These labels flow into hyperlinks, Sets, and reports.
- Optionally add a dynamic “Issued by [User] on [Date]” stamp: Tools > Stamp > Create Stamp. Place in the approval cell, then flatten just the stamp for record integrity.
- Batch-apply at scale: Batch > Header & Footer and Batch > Create Page Labels. Save presets per discipline or client standard.
- Protect the frame, keep fields editable: Document > Flatten. Leave Form Fields unflattened (or use Allow Markup Recovery) so teams can keep filling without breaking the layout.
- Save and share: Document > Save as Template. Distribute via Profiles and shared locations so every project starts identical.
