Overview
Creo View Adapter for PDF is a Windows-based solution that streamlines the process of converting Microsoft Office documents into PDF viewables for use within Creo View. By enabling seamless integration between office files and product visualization, it ensures that supporting documents are always accessible, consistent, and ready for collaboration.
The adapter offers two configurable methods for creating PDF outputs, giving teams the flexibility to standardize workflows and tailor conversion settings to project needs. With this tool, organizations can maintain accuracy, reduce manual effort, and deliver documentation alongside 3D models, creating a unified product data environment.
How it works
With Creo View Adapter for PDF, you can configure this adapter to PDF documents by using two methods:
- Office Publishing—Uses the native export to PDF tool of Microsoft Office for publishing.
- Adobe Experience Manager (AEM)—uses AEM integration to generate PDF for office documents
By default, the Creo View Adapter for PDF uses Office Publishing to convert documents to the PDF format. To use AEM instead, you need to add the AEM server details and configure the setup. For more information, see Using doc2pv_config on Windows.
Adobe have changed the name of their application from Adobe LiveCycle to Adobe Experience Manager (AEM). In this document AEM refers to both version names unless otherwise noted.
The conversion process is generally referred to as publishing. The properties of the published PDF are synchronized with the document’s properties in Windchill. The Creo View Adapter for PDF must first be configured using the doc2pv_config tool.
Publishing is accomplished in one of two ways:
- Convert the documents in a command shell using a method called command line publishing. This method is described in Command Line Publishing with docbatch.
- Run the adapter in the background to convert documents as needed, without direct user intervention. This is called server controlled publishing. This method is described in Server Controlled Publishing with docworker.
The interactive publishing method is not available for the Creo View Adapter for PDF.
In publishing, recipe configuration provides the administrator with complete control of the conversion process.
