It addresses trade-specific requirements that conventional 3D modeling tools do not handle directly, including panel construction, grain orientation, assembly clearances, traditional joinery, standardized hardware, drilling patterns, machining data and workshop documentation.
By bringing repetitive woodworking operations into one coordinated toolset, AD Wood can substantially reduce the time required to model, modify and prepare projects for production. Users can construct panels and solid-wood parts from existing faces, selections or component instances; build cabinets and doors; create tenon-and-mortise joints; add parametric hardware; define CNC origins; and prepare machining exports without repeatedly rebuilding production details by hand. Clearly designed tool icons make the workflow approachable while allowing experienced SketchUp users to move rapidly between design tasks.
AD Wood supports projects ranging from custom cabinetry and fitted interiors to freestanding furniture, architectural woodwork and CNC-manufactured components. Its practical workflow helps maintain consistency as a model evolves, giving workshops a clearer connection between the designer’s intent and the information required for fabrication. The extension is designed for SketchUp Pro and SketchUp Studio 2025 or later on Windows and macOS. It requires a desktop edition of SketchUp and is not intended for smartphones, tablets or the web-based version.

AD Wood provides a focused collection of tools for turning basic SketchUp geometry into accurately organized woodworking components. Panels can be generated directly or created from a face, selection or existing instance, helping users convert early design geometry into fabrication-ready parts without interrupting the modeling process. Solid Wood, Joinery, Hardware and Machining
For solid-wood furniture and architectural joinery, AD Wood offers dedicated commands that create timber components from faces, selections or instances. Specialized tools accelerate the construction of tenon-and-mortise joints, notches, miter cuts, tongues and grooves. These operations allow designers to represent essential manufacturing details inside the model instead of relying exclusively on workshop interpretation. Because joinery can be developed alongside the overall design, potential conflicts become easier to identify before material reaches the machine or workbench.
The hardware workflow includes tools for assemblies, parametric fittings and screws, along with commands for quickly modifying or removing those elements. This supports cleaner revisions when dimensions, door arrangements or fitting selections change. Machining functions cover moldings, grooves, drilling, System 32 hole patterns, circular-saw operations and notching. The resulting model can therefore communicate more than exterior form: it can capture the operations needed to construct the finished object.

AD Wood extends its workflow beyond modeling with tools for establishing a CNC machine origin, storing project information, producing reports and preparing machining exports. An export-to-LayOut function supports the creation of coordinated presentation and documentation materials. These features help standardize the handoff from the SketchUp model to downstream workshop processes, reducing ambiguity and making project data easier to review before manufacturing begins.
Additional modeling commands improve everyday productivity across complex furniture and interior projects. Users can create sloped rectangles, generate symmetrical copies, duplicate and align elements, draw lines on surfaces, bend geometry and apply an enhanced push-pull workflow. Vertex-selection and subset-resizing utilities provide more control when editing detailed assemblies. For visual communication, LED-strip and light-cone tools make it possible to represent integrated lighting and illustrate its intended effect within display cabinets, fitted furniture and staged interiors.
