Unfortunately my installation of Rhino Terrain 2.0 for Rhino 5.0 didn't work.
So far Terrain has been fairly easy to use. The drop-down menu is typically simple, and follows the structure of other plugins such as PT. I haven't experimented w/ terrain extensively yet, but have used it dependably for several simple operations. It functions excellently for discrete areas. However, large areas w/ dense contours seem to crash to software--but perhaps this is a Rhino(v4) problem? Along the same lines, there's rumors that this may be included in a future v5 update/release, but back-tracking to v4 remains an unfortunate necessity.
When this product works, it's pretty good, but it does generate some "lumpy" terrains -- it creates small hills and potholes that aren't really there.
I've tried several times now to get some tech support to resolve this problem, but my emails to France go unanswered, except for one so far. So caveat emptor definitely applies.
RhinoTerrain is an add-on that provides Delauney Mesh creation features for Rhino. It works amazingly fast and the settings add some great functionality such as breakline creation. The GIS (dem and shp file) features crash Rhino on me. The gradient tool for colorizing terrains is a little light on features and clunky. The add-on is a little expensive (even the student version) for the fact that it does pretty much one thing. It doesn't seem that updates or much is going on to expand this package. The website lacks information and is filled with bad translations from Fench to English.
That being said, this program is still a vital part of my workflow and it is really FAST. It can handle huge, very complicated terrain efficiently. The contour line creation is a great tool. I just hope that these guys continue to develop and expand the scope of this great little add-on. I realize that mesh-editing is not Rhino's forte but a more complete package based round an add-on like this with editing tools could really push it there.
Great time savor and very accurate! Great tool for diagramming a site.
