Sculpt convincing lips by building interlocking volumes rather than carving a single mouth line. In ZBrush, available from NOVEDGE, separate each stage with subdivision levels and sculpt layers so proportions remain editable.
Keep tertiary wrinkles and pores on a separate high-resolution layer. Fine vertical lip lines should follow the curvature of each mass, vary in length, and become less visible near stretched corners. A few carefully placed lines are more convincing than evenly spaced grooves.
Layers provide valuable art direction: reduce a layer’s intensity if the mouth line is too sharp, duplicate a layer to strengthen an effect, or temporarily disable detail layers while correcting primary anatomy. Remember that sculpt layers depend on unchanged vertex order, so complete DynaMesh, ZRemesher, or other topology-changing operations before recording them.
Finish by turning off symmetry and introducing restrained differences in height, compression, and corner position. Rotate the model under neutral lighting and verify that the lips read through silhouette and plane changes—not merely through creases.
