- More resilient than strictly wall/ceiling-based families when hosts are edited, deleted, or replaced.

- Simplifies template libraries—one versatile family covers multiple host scenarios.

Set up in the Family Editor
- Start from a “Generic Model Face Based” (or the correct category’s face-based) template.
- Define a clear insertion point with named Reference Planes; lock critical geometry to Reference Planes, not to host faces.
- Use Always vertical only if the component must stay plumb; leave it unchecked for sloped-face placement.
- Enable Cut with Voids When Loaded only when the family must cut its host; avoid unnecessary void cutting for performance.
- Provide type vs. instance parameters thoughtfully; expose critical dimensions as instance parameters for on-site fit.
- Add symbolic lines/masks for legible plan/reflective ceiling views and place geometry on Subcategories for V/G control.

- Use “Place on Face” for general placement; switch to “Place on Work Plane” for precise, level-based alignment.
- For sloped roofs or complex façades, turn off Always vertical to align flush with the host surface.

- Wall/ceiling-hosted content cannot be “converted” natively; rebuild critical components using a face-based template.
