Graebert's ARES Commander 2023 has introduced a new feature called the 'Cycling Selection Option'. This new functionality enhances your CAD experience by making entity selection more intuitive and efficient, particularly when dealing with overlapping entities. In this post, we will dive into the details of this feature and how it can revolutionize your CAD workflows.
Before we delve into the cycling selection option, it's essential to understand the basic selection methods ARES Commander provides. First, entities can be selected simply by clicking on them. Secondly, you can make selections using windows. If you drag your mouse from left to right, a blue window will appear, and only the entities fully inside it will be selected. If you move from right to left, you will create a 'capture window.' This green window captures all entities that cross its border. You can also remove items from the current selection by holding Shift while clicking on the entities you want to remove.
The lasso selection was recently introduced, which allows a form selection by clicking and holding down the left mouse button while dragging. This method is quite handy when handling complex designs. However, these methods might fall short when dealing with overlapping entities. For that, ARES Commander has introduced the smart selection option. This powerful tool enables you to filter out entities according to various criteria, but it can be time-consuming.
The cycling selection option comes into play when dealing with overlapping entities. This new feature, symbolized by a specific icon, displays a list of overlapping entities when you hover the cursor over them, allowing you to select only the entity you want. You can turn this feature on and off from the status bar, or using the Ctrl + W key combination. Moreover, right-clicking on the status bar allows you to access the cycling selection settings. This functionality provides a more intuitive and time-efficient way to manage your designs.
Another way to perform cycling selection without opening the drop-down menu is by positioning the mouse pointer on top of overlapping entities and using the Shift + space bar combination. Additionally, if you have multiple entities overlapping each other, it could be that some of these are duplicates created by mistake. In that case, the 'Discard Duplicates' command can help you clean up your drawing.
Graebert's ARES Commander 2023 continues to innovate and improve the CAD experience with features like the cycling selection option. This feature, along with others like lasso and smart selection, offers a comprehensive suite of tools to deal with complex designs and overlapping entities. If you're looking for a CAD solution that prioritizes efficiency and productivity, ARES Commander is a solid choice.
