Start by confirming the drawing scale before measuring. Select a known dimension on the sheet, use the calibration options in the Measurements panel, and verify that the result matches the printed plan. An incorrect scale affects every quantity that follows.

• Use Length measurements for linear materials such as pipe, conduit, baseboard, curbs, framing, and sealant joints.
• Use Area measurements for flooring, roofing, paint, concrete slab finishes, insulation, and drywall surfaces.

Use custom columns in the Markups List to add waste factors, unit costs, or conversion formulas. A simple formula can convert measured area into the number of boxes, sheets, or rolls needed. Review totals by filtering the Subject column, then export the Markups List to Excel when a formal estimate requires further pricing or reporting.

Keep assumptions visible: add a note or caption identifying the material specification, waste percentage, and exclusions. This gives reviewers a traceable record of how quantities were developed.
