Bluebeam Tip: Revu Document Compare: Isolate True Deltas

Speed up revision reviews by using Revu’s Document Compare to isolate true deltas, not noise.

• Open the revised and baseline PDFs, then go to Document > Compare Documents.
• Select Old Document and New Document, and choose an appropriate Page Range.
• Match pages by Page Index or Page Label to ensure correct pairings across sets.
• Enable automatic alignment; if pages are slightly shifted or scanned, allow Revu to auto-align before comparing.
• Set boundary style/color and cloud size so changes are obvious without overwhelming the sheet.
• Click OK. Revu generates markup clouds on the New document, flagging additions, deletions, and moves.

Review efficiently:

• Open the Markups List and sort by Page, then Subject. Use Filters to focus on specific sheets or reviewers.
• Group findings (right-click in Markups List > Group) to batch-update Status or Responsibility.
• Add custom columns (e.g., Discipline, Cost Impact) for downstream reporting.
• Export a Summary (PDF, CSV, or XML) to circulate a clean change log.

Accuracy tips:

• Normalize page labels before comparing so matches are reliable.
• If either set contains non-essential annotations, save a copy and flatten or remove them first to reduce false positives.
• Run a quick spot check with Split View and Sync to verify a few pages side-by-side.

When to use Overlay Pages instead:

• Use Compare Documents to create actionable change clouds you can track and report.
• Use Overlay Pages to visually stack versions with distinct colors for spatial context. Many teams run Compare first, then Overlay for presentation.

Scaling up:

• For entire plan sets, use Batch > Compare to process multiple pages and generate a consolidated review set.
