Bluebeam Tip: Portable Clickable Command Center for Bluebeam Revu

Create a lightweight, clickable command center in Revu that any team can reuse across projects.

  • Plan the structure
    • Define key destinations: Plans, Details, RFIs, Submittals, Schedules, Closeout, and external portals (SharePoint, Procore, etc.).
    • Place the dashboard PDF in the project root to keep link paths simple and portable.
  • Build the base page
    • Create a clean, single-page PDF (company colors, logo, clear sections).
    • Use the Properties panel to standardize fills, borders, text size, and hover colors for buttons.
  • Create smart buttons as reusable tools
    • Draw a rectangle or polygon, add a text label, then assign an Action (Right-click > Edit Action): Go to Page, Open File/Folder, Jump to Bookmark, or Open Web Link.
    • Save each button to a dedicated Tool Set (Tool Chest > Add to Tool Set) named “Dashboards.” Actions are preserved, so your “button” becomes a drag-and-drop widget.
    • When linking to project files, keep paths relative by storing the dashboard and targets within the same folder structure.
  • Organize with Layers
    • Assign buttons to Layers (e.g., Precon, Construction, Closeout) to toggle visibility for different audiences or phases.
    • Use color-coding per layer for instant visual cues.
  • Distribute and enforce consistency
    • Export the Tool Set (.btx) and share it with your team via a shared drive or Studio Project.
    • Bundle your dashboard page, Tool Sets, and panel layout into a Profile for one-click deployment.
  • Lock it down (but keep links live)
    • Flatten graphics to prevent accidental edits; hyperlinks remain interactive after flattening.
    • Optionally set permissions to restrict changes while allowing navigation.

Pro tips:

  • Add a “Start Here” button that opens a bookmarked orientation page.
  • Use Batch Link to auto-link detail callouts and keep your dashboard relevant across revisions.
  • Pin your “Dashboards” Tool Set to the top of the Tool Chest for quick access.
