Bluebeam Tip: Lock Markups from the Properties Panel in Bluebeam Revu

Prevent accidental shifts and keep drawings consistent by locking markups directly from the Properties panel in Bluebeam Revu.

  • Select one or more markups on the page (use Shift/Ctrl to multi-select, or select rows in the Markups List).
  • Open the Properties panel and check Lock. This immediately prevents moving, resizing, or changing the markup’s appearance.
  • To unlock, reselect the markup(s) and uncheck Lock (or right‑click a markup and choose Unlock).
  • For batches, filter the Markups List (by Type, Subject, Color, or Author), select the filtered results, then lock them all at once.
  • Confirm results by trying to move a locked object; it should remain fixed until unlocked.

When to lock:

  • After measurements and key callouts are verified, lock them to prevent accidental edits during reviews.
  • Before sharing a set with collaborators or exporting, lock the critical markups you don’t want changed.
  • In punch, RFI, or submittal workflows, lock final dispositions so status changes are intentional and traceable.

Related controls to know:

  • Lock vs Flatten: Lock is reversible and preserves full markup data for future edits. Flatten writes markups into the PDF content and is best for final deliverables (use with care).
  • Locking by Layer: Placing markups on a dedicated layer and locking that layer provides an additional safeguard for discipline‑specific notes.
  • Studio permissions: In Sessions, author and permission settings further control who can modify markups—combine with Lock for added protection.

Pro tip: Build a quick QA step—Filter Markups List to “Measurements” and “Critical Notes,” select all, then Lock via the Properties panel. This keeps high‑value data stable while the team continues reviewing other content.
