Bluebeam Tip: Export Revu Markups List to CSV for Excel and Power BI

Get clean, analyzable data out of Revu by exporting the Markups List to CSV and unlocking fast insights in Excel or BI tools. Here’s a streamlined approach.

Prepare your data in Revu:

  • Show only the columns you need in the Markups List: Subject, Status, Date, Author, Page Label, Layer, Comments, Responsibility, and key measurement fields (Area/Length/Count).
  • Add Custom Columns for Cost Code, Location, Phase, or any KPI you want to track; use Lists (dropdowns) to enforce consistency.
  • Standardize Subjects (e.g., “RFI,” “Punch,” “As-Built”) and apply Status values before export.
  • Verify measurement precision/units in Properties so numeric values import cleanly into Excel.
  • Filter/sort the Markups List to the exact scope you want summarized.

Export to CSV (fast and repeatable):

  • Open the Markups List, select Summary, then choose CSV Summary.
  • Scope: All Markups, Filtered Markups, or only Checked Items, depending on your workflow.
  • Options to set before saving:
    • Include Column Headers for easier mapping downstream.
    • Respect current Sort/Group if you want the CSV ordered to match your on-screen view.
    • Choose a clear filename convention: Project_Sheet_Set_Markups_YYYYMMDD.csv.

Analyze in Excel or Power BI:

  • Excel: Data > From Text/CSV, set the correct delimiter, and assign data types (ensure counts/areas import as numbers, not text).
  • Use Power Query to:
    • Split Page Label into Sheet ID and Title.
    • Normalize Status values and map to schedule/cost codes.
    • Create a reusable query for future CSV drops.
  • Build PivotTables/Charts: Markups by Status, trade, location, or sheet; sum quantities for takeoff summaries.

Pro tips for reliability:

  • Define a shared Profile and Tool Sets so columns and Subjects stay consistent across the team.
  • Set Page Labels before exporting for cleaner sheet references.
  • CSV doesn’t carry images—store photo links or IDs in a Custom Column if needed.
