Bluebeam Tip: Enable Open with Revu for Fast PDF Access

Speed up file access by launching PDFs directly from Windows Explorer with “Open with Revu.” Here’s how to enable it and make it work harder for you.

Enable and set Revu as your default PDF app

  • Right-click any PDF > Open with > Choose another app > select Bluebeam Revu > check “Always use this app to open .pdf files” > OK.
  • Windows Settings path: Settings > Apps > Default apps > Choose defaults by file type > set .pdf to Bluebeam Revu.
  • Using Bluebeam Administrator (recommended): Close Revu, run “Bluebeam Administrator” as an administrator > Revu tab > set/repair File Associations to make Revu the default handler.

Everyday time-savers from Explorer

  • Multi-select PDFs in Explorer, then right-click > Open with > Bluebeam Revu to open them as tabs in a single Revu session.
  • Drag and drop files (or entire folders) from Explorer into Revu’s tab bar to append quickly without hunting through dialog boxes.
  • Windows 11 tip: If you don’t see the Revu option, choose “Show more options” (Shift+F10) to access the classic context menu.
  • Pin frequently used folders to Quick Access; combined with “Open with Revu,” this becomes a two-click launch to your working set.

Dial in Revu behavior for smoother launches

  • Preferences > General > Tabs: Confirm PDFs open in tabs (not separate windows) for faster context switching.
  • Preferences > General > Startup: Enable restoring your last session so reopening from Explorer picks up right where you left off.

Troubleshooting

  • Missing “Open with Revu” or PDFs keep opening elsewhere? Re-run Bluebeam Administrator as admin and repair File Associations.
  • No thumbnails in Explorer? Enable PDF thumbnail previews in Bluebeam Administrator and restart Explorer.
