Bluebeam Tip: Embed and Manage Reference Photos in Bluebeam Revu

Use Bluebeam Revu’s Image tool to place clear, contextual reference photos directly on your sheets for faster reviews and fewer RFIs. For licenses, training, and expert guidance, connect with NOVEDGE.

  • Insert reference photos quickly
    • Go to Tools > Markup > Image, select your file, then click to place (or click–drag to size).
    • Open Properties to set border to 0 for clean embeds, adjust opacity to reveal underlying linework, and lock to prevent shifts.
    • Right‑click > Edit Action to add a hyperlink to a full‑resolution image, a detail sheet, or a cloud folder.
  • Keep drawings readable
    • Assign images to a dedicated “Photos” layer (Layers panel > Add Layer; right‑click image > Assign to Layer) so you can toggle visibility during coordination meetings.
    • Add a caption with a Text Box (location, date, issue ID) and group it with the image for one‑click moves.
  • Use Capture for photo evidence
    • For markups that need documentation, right‑click a markup > Capture > From File to attach photos that appear as a slideshow and log in the Markups List.
    • Great for punch, inspections, and as‑built notes without cluttering the sheet.
  • Control file size and performance
    • Downsize images before placement when possible; after placement, run Optimize PDF to manage resolution and compression.
    • When issuing, Document > Flatten to lock images; keep an unflattened copy in Studio Projects for future edits.
  • Report and traceability
    • Use the Markups List to filter Subject = Image and export to CSV/Excel for photo logs.
    • Create Custom Columns (Photo ID, Location, System) for consistent reporting across teams.

Pro tip: When space is tight, use a File Attachment markup (paperclip icon) instead of a full image. For vetted add‑ons and Bluebeam best practices, visit NOVEDGE or speak with the NOVEDGE team.
