  • Prep the 2D profile
    • Ensure geometry is closed and coplanar. Use PEDIT (Join) to convert lines/arcs to a single closed PLINE.
    • Create a boundary with BOUNDARY or convert loops with REGION. Inner loops represent holes.
    • Fix issues before 3D: OVERKILL (remove duplicates), FLATTEN (Express Tools) to zero Z, and AUDIT if the file acts oddly.
    • Test closure quickly by trying a temporary HATCH—if it fills correctly, the loop is closed.
  • Choose the right object type
    • EXTRUDE accepts closed PLINE and REGION. Regions are more predictable for shapes with islands.

  • Set orientation with UCS
