Bluebeam Tip: Create Clear Takeoff Reports with Bluebeam Markup Summary

Turn your measured quantities into a clear, shareable report with Markup Summary in Bluebeam Revu. Rather than manually transferring takeoff values into a spreadsheet, use the Markups List to organize measurement data and generate a summary directly from the PDF.

Start by confirming that your drawing is correctly calibrated and that each measurement markup uses consistent subjects, labels, and units. This structure is what makes the final takeoff summary useful.

  • Open the Markups List: Select Window > Panels > Markups if the panel is not already visible.
  • Review the key columns: Include Subject, Label, Page, Measurement, Count, and any custom fields such as Cost Code, Material, or Trade.
  • Filter before exporting: Filter by subject, layer, status, or custom column to isolate the scope you need—for example, concrete areas, door counts, or demolition quantities.
  • Sort and group data: Sort by Subject or Label to bring similar measurements together. Consistent naming in your Tool Chest makes this step much faster.
  • Create the summary: In the Markups List, choose Summary, then select CSV, XML, or PDF, depending on how the estimate will be reviewed.
  • Choose the right report format: A PDF summary is ideal for a polished review package, while CSV data can be opened in Excel for estimating calculations, pricing, or further analysis.

For visual accountability, include markup snapshots in the PDF summary. Each row can show the corresponding measurement or count markup, making it easier for a reviewer to verify where every quantity originated on the plan.

A reliable workflow is to create separate custom columns for scope-specific information—such as phase, area, estimator, or unit cost—before generating the report. This turns the Markups List into a lightweight takeoff database and reduces duplicate data entry.

Standardize your measurement tools once, then reuse them across projects to make every export more consistent. Explore Bluebeam solutions from NOVEDGE for tools that support streamlined digital takeoffs, estimating, and document-review workflows.
