Bluebeam Tip: Create Bookmarks from Page Labels in Bluebeam Revu

Long PDF drawing sets are easier to review when the bookmark structure matches the sheet labels. In Bluebeam Revu, you can generate bookmarks directly from page labels instead of manually creating an entry for every sheet.

This is especially valuable for bid sets, permit packages, specifications, and record drawings where each page already has a meaningful identifier such as A1.01, S2.03, or MEP-101.

• First, confirm that the document’s page labels are correct. Open the Thumbnails panel and verify the labels shown beneath or alongside the page thumbnails.
• If needed, update them using Document > Page Labels. Apply labels by sheet discipline, page range, or numbering sequence before creating bookmarks.
• Open the Bookmarks panel and use the option to create bookmarks from page labels.
• Choose the applicable page range, then allow Revu to generate a bookmark for each labeled page.
• Review the resulting list and rename, reorder, or nest bookmarks where a more detailed hierarchy is helpful.

A practical approach is to use a clean naming convention before generation. For example, label pages consistently as G0.01 – Cover Sheet, A1.01 – Floor Plan, and E2.01 – Power Plan. The automatically created bookmark list will then provide a reliable navigation menu for everyone reviewing the PDF.

For large drawing sets, add parent bookmarks after creation, such as Architectural, Structural, and Electrical, then drag the related sheet bookmarks beneath each parent. This gives reviewers both fast sheet-level access and a logical discipline-based structure.

Before distributing the file, test several bookmarks to ensure they lead to the intended pages. A well-organized bookmark panel reduces scrolling, improves review speed, and helps project teams find information without relying on sheet numbers alone.
