Bluebeam Tip: Centralize and Deploy Bluebeam Tool Chests for Standardized Markups

Standardize markups, accelerate onboarding, and protect brand standards by centrally importing and exporting company Tool Chests in Bluebeam Revu.

  • Create the master tool set
    • Build and QA your company symbols, colors, Subjects, and Comments in the Tool Chest.
    • Tool Chest menu > Manage Tool Sets > Select set > Export > save as “Company_ToolSet_v###.btx”.
    • Publish to a read-only network or cloud location (SharePoint/OneDrive/Teams/DFS).
  • Distribute the tool set (choose the right method)
    • Add (recommended for central management): Tool Chest > Manage Tool Sets > Add > browse to the shared .btx. Check Read-Only so users can’t alter standards. Admin updates to the shared file propagate to everyone.
    • Import (one-time copy): Tool Chest > Manage Tool Sets > Import > select the .btx. This creates a local copy that won’t auto-update.
  • Bundle with a company Profile
    • Revu > Profiles > Manage Profiles > Export > enable “Include Tool Sets.”
    • Share the .bpx so new users get the correct UI, columns, and Tool Chests in one step.
  • Version control and governance
    • Use semantic versions (v1.3.0) and date-stamp release notes in the shared folder.
    • Lock down the master location (write access for admins only). Mark end-user Tool Sets as Read-Only.
    • Retire old .btx files to an archive folder to prevent accidental use.
  • IT deployment tips
    • Script installs to copy profiles/tool sets to %AppData%\Bluebeam Software\Revu\XX\ToolSets (version may vary).
    • Use “Add” with UNC paths for zero-touch updates; notify users to restart Revu after changes.

Pro tip: Pair Tool Chests with Custom Columns and Status Lists in your Profile so the Markups List exports are immediately report-ready.
