Bluebeam Tip: Calibrate Images in Revu for Accurate Measurements

Today’s tip: calibrate images from cameras or scans so you can measure with confidence in Revu. Perfect for site photos, as-builts, or legacy paper scans. Courtesy of NOVEDGE.

• Bring the image into Revu:
  • Drag and drop an image to create a new PDF, or use File > Create > From File.
  • If you’re placing an image on a scaled sheet, insert it first and size/position it before calibration.
• Open the Measurements panel and choose Calibrate. Pick two well-defined points on the image and enter the real-world distance. Set units and precision.
• Choose where the scale applies:
  • Page: best for single-image PDFs.
  • Viewport: on mixed-scale sheets, draw a viewport over the image and calibrate the viewport so you don’t overwrite the sheet scale.
• Verify accuracy by measuring a second known length. If it’s off, recalibrate using a longer baseline or cleaner points.
• If needed, Apply to All Pages to push the same calibration to similar images/pages.

Pro accuracy tips

• Use the longest straight reference you can (gridline spacing, curb-to-curb, standard door width).
• Pick points near the center of the image to reduce lens-edge distortion.
• Avoid perspective: capture photos square-on; skip wide-angle lenses when measuring.
• Rotate the page/image upright before calibrating; don’t resize after calibration.
• For scans, disable “fit to page” when scanning; consistent DPI helps, but calibration corrects scale regardless.
• Increase zoom and adjust brightness/contrast on the image so snap points are unmistakable.
• Lock the viewport once set to prevent accidental edits to scale.
• Document the applied scale in a text note or legend for downstream reviewers.
