Bluebeam Tip: Calibrate and Standardize Color Output in Bluebeam Revu

Consistent, predictable color from screen to print starts with calibration and a repeatable workflow in Revu and your print driver.

  • Calibrate your environment
    • Use an ICC-calibrated monitor and install the manufacturer’s ICC profile for your printer in your OS color management.
    • Select the calibrated printer profile as default in the printer properties to ensure apps (including Revu) target the right gamut.
  • Normalize colors in Revu before printing
    • Document > Process > Color Processing: convert to Grayscale for B&W devices or reassign hard-to-print hues (e.g., light yellows/cyans) to print-safe colors.
    • Increase visibility: darken light line colors and adjust hatch fills so critical details don’t wash out.
  • Make markups print-ready
    • Use print-safe markup palettes (avoid neon tones on white). Set fill opacity between 40–70% to keep text legible beneath highlights.
    • Ensure thin lines aren’t lost: bump line weights on key markups and dimensions as needed.
  • Lock appearance
    • Document > Flatten to preserve color, opacity, and blend modes so output matches your on‑screen intent.
  • Control the print pipeline
    • In the Print dialog, choose Color or Grayscale intentionally; prefer vector output for sharper lines and truer colors. Rasterize only when transparency or complex effects require it.
    • Avoid unintended scaling; print at 100% unless a scale adjustment is required.
  • Proof once, reuse forever
    • Create a one‑page “color swatch and lineweight” test PDF. Print, compare, then adjust Color Processing and markup properties.
    • Save the results as a team profile and standardized Tool Sets for consistent output across projects.

Quick fixes:

  • Yellow highlighters disappearing? Reassign to a deeper amber or increase fill opacity.
  • Dark fills obscuring notes? Lower fill opacity or add a white text knock‑out callout.
