Bluebeam Tip: Bluebeam Revu Snapshot: Precise Reuse, Placement, and Scaling of Details

Today’s tip: use Bluebeam Revu’s Snapshot tool to move, reuse, and scale details with precision—without redrawing.

  • Activate quickly: press G (or Edit > Snapshot), drag a window around the region, then paste with Ctrl+V. Revu copies the selection to the clipboard with a transparent background, ideal for clean overlays.
  • Paste in place across sheets: use Ctrl+Shift+V to keep the exact coordinates when moving callouts, details, or stamps between sheets of the same size/origin. This is perfect for plan set revisions.
  • Align and scale precisely:
    • Use Snap to Content for accurate edge alignment.
    • Right‑click > Properties > Size & Position to enter exact dimensions or percentage scale.
    • If the destination sheet is calibrated, your pasted Snapshot will hold scale relationships; refine with Size & Position for mismatched page scales.
  • Create reusable details:
    • Right‑click the pasted Snapshot > Add to Tool Chest > choose a Tool Set. Name it clearly (e.g., “Detail – Typical Expansion Joint”).
    • Share the Tool Set company‑wide for consistency; export/import the .btx file or distribute via Studio Projects.
  • Build quick legends and notes: assemble Snapshots of symbols/keys on a dedicated page, add labels, then reuse as a template for new projects.
  • Make it interactive: right‑click the Snapshot > Edit Action to add hyperlinks (to other sheets, details, RFIs, or external URLs). This turns visual references into navigable documentation.
  • Package or protect:
    • Lock Snapshot markups to prevent accidental edits.
    • Document > Flatten before distribution so recipients without Revu still see your placed details exactly as intended.
  • Power user moves:
    • File > New PDF from Clipboard to turn a Snapshot into a standalone detail sheet.
    • Combine with the Markups List to tag, sort, and report where Snapshots were reused.
