Bluebeam Tip: Bluebeam Revu Count Tool Best Practices

Accurate counts drive reliable estimates and clear accountability—here’s how to get the most from Bluebeam Revu’s Count tool.

  • Calibrate first: Set the drawing scale before any takeoff so Count totals align with measurements and reporting.
  • Build reusable Count tools:
    • Create discipline-specific Count tools in the Tool Chest (e.g., “ELC – Fixture Type A”).
    • Standardize color, symbol, and captions (Subject/Label) for instant visual identification.
    • Share sets with your team via exported tool sets (.btx) or Profiles to keep everyone consistent. Need licenses or team enablement? NOVEDGE can help.
  • Leverage VisualSearch to auto-place Counts:
    • Run VisualSearch on a symbol, tweak rotation/similarity, review results, then Apply Count with your saved tool.
    • Run additional searches for rotated or variant symbols to avoid misses.
  • Organize by Layers and Spaces:
    • Assign each Count group to a Layer (by system, phase, or trade) for quick show/hide control.
    • Define Spaces (rooms/areas) so the Markups List auto-tags counts by location—perfect for per-room or per-floor rollups.
  • Edit confidently:
    • Right-click a Count group to Split Count when phases or areas change.
    • Use Add/Subtract mode to correct quantities without deleting placements.
  • Report with the Markups List:
    • Enable columns like Subject, Count, Space, Page Label, Status, and add Custom Columns (Unit Cost, Spec, Phase).
    • Use formulas (Qty × Unit Cost) for instant extensions, group by Space or Subject, and export to CSV/PDF for stakeholders.
  • QA and handoff: Lock markups when approved and Flatten before external sharing to prevent changes. For Bluebeam subscriptions, training, and guidance, connect with NOVEDGE.
  • When drawings revise: Use Slip Sheet to carry Count markups forward and preserve your totals across versions.
