Bluebeam Tip: Batch Overlay for Entire Plan Set Comparison

Save hours on revision reviews by using Batch Overlay to compare entire plan sets in one pass.

Why Batch Overlay (vs. Compare or single-page Overlay)?

Batch Overlay stacks sheets from two (or more) versions with assigned colors across an entire set.
Compare Documents clouds differences but isn’t ideal for visual layering of disciplines.
Overlay Pages is great for one-off sheets; Batch Overlay scales that across hundreds.

Before you start

Standardize Page Labels (e.g., A101, A102) so sheets auto-match across sets.
Clean PDFs: remove borders, ensure consistent page size/orientation, and rotate as needed.
Optional: Calibrate one sheet in each set so alignment cues (grids, centerlines) are consistent.

Workflow (fast and reliable)

Go to Tools > Batch > Overlay Pages (requires Revu Complete, formerly eXtreme).
Add the “Old” and “New” sets. Use Auto-Match by Page Label or File Name.
Assign distinct colors per set (e.g., Red = New, Blue = Old) and enable Create Layers per source.
For scanned plans, use Alignment Points or Use Page Region to lock registration.
Choose output folder and naming (include revision/date tokens for traceability) and run.

Pro tips for power users

Save Configuration to reuse the same matches, colors, and output rules on future revisions.
Leverage the Layers panel in the result to toggle revisions on/off and isolate disciplines.
Add a Legend so downstream reviewers instantly understand color meaning.
Pair with Batch Slip Sheet to insert the overlaid results back into master sets while preserving hyperlinks.
In Studio Projects, process locally, then upload the overlaid set for team-wide review without emailing large files.
For noisy scans, pre-process with OCR and deskew to improve auto-alignment fidelity.
