Bluebeam Tip: Audit‑Ready Revision Cloud Workflow in Bluebeam Revu

Wrangling revision clouds across a full drawing set is about consistency, traceability, and speed. Here’s a proven approach in Bluebeam Revu to keep revisions audit-ready across sheets.

  • Prep your environment
    • Create dedicated layers per revision (e.g., Rev A, Rev B). Color-code them and set earlier revisions to Non-Print when issuing new sets.
    • Standardize tools: save a Cloud+ and a Delta Triangle (Sequence) in a shared Tool Set with preset color, line weight, Subject, and Layer.
    • Add Markups List custom columns: Revision, Discipline, Change Reason, RFI/SK, Cost Impact. Make “Revision” a choice list to avoid typos.
    • Use AutoMark on Thumbnails to set page labels to Sheet Number – Title for cleaner reports.
  • Find and generate clouds at scale
    • Run Document > Compare Documents for single sheets or use Batch Compare/Overlay for entire sets. Changes become markups you can layer and filter.
    • Immediately assign clouds to the correct revision layer via Properties (set a default Layer on your tools to automate this).
    • Filter the Markups List by Type = Cloud/Cloud+ and Status to focus review and approvals.
  • Number and link deltas
    • Use the Sequence tool for delta triangles and set Scope to “Document” to continue numbering across pages. Right‑click > Reassign Sequence to fix order later.
    • Hyperlink deltas to RFIs/SKs/specs; leverage Batch Link to build navigation between sheets and details.
  • Publish and archive cleanly
    • Before issue, Lock for internal drafts; Flatten for final packages. Consider password protection or disallow unflatten to preserve record.
    • Create a Markups List PDF Summary with thumbnails and your custom columns, plus a CSV for downstream reporting.
    • Distribute via Studio Projects/Sessions to maintain an audit trail.
