ZRemesher’s Adaptive Size setting controls how strongly the new topology responds to the shape of your sculpt. Used carefully, it can distribute polygons efficiently—placing denser topology around curved or detailed forms while generating broader polygons across flatter areas.
Open Tool > Geometry > ZRemesher and locate Adaptive Size. The value determines how much polygon size may vary across the resulting mesh:
Before remeshing, duplicate the original SubTool. Keep one copy as the high-resolution source and use the duplicate for topology experiments. ZRemesher changes the mesh structure, so retaining the original provides a reliable source for projecting details back onto the new surface.
For a controlled test, use this workflow:
Judge the result in PolyFrame mode, not only with a smooth material. Look for abrupt changes in polygon scale, spiraling edge flow, stretched polygons, and unnecessary density. If large flat regions remain too dense, increase adaptation slightly. If facial features, joints, or other deformation zones contain irregular polygon sizes, reduce it and support the flow with Polygroups or guides.
Adaptive Size does not replace good preparation. Clean up floating fragments, close accidental holes, simplify noisy surfaces, and establish a readable primary silhouette before remeshing. Excessive surface noise can cause ZRemesher to spend topology on details that would be better restored later through projection.
After obtaining a satisfactory base, subdivide the remeshed copy gradually and use Project All in stages. Small projection distances at each subdivision level generally produce cleaner results than attempting to recover every detail in one operation. Always inspect thin surfaces, fingers, lips, straps, and overlapping parts for projection errors.
The key is to treat Adapt as an artistic control rather than a universal quality setting: higher is not automatically better. Choose the value according to whether your priority is efficient shape retention, uniform sculpting density, or deformation-friendly topology.
