CageEdit is one of Rhino’s most useful deformation tools for reshaping complex geometry without rebuilding it from scratch. Instead of moving individual control points on every curve or surface, you create a temporary control cage around selected objects and deform the cage. The enclosed geometry follows the transformation.

To begin, select the geometry you want to modify and run CageEdit. Rhino offers several cage creation methods, including:
For most situations, choose BoundingBox, then specify the number of control points in the X, Y, and Z directions. The number you choose determines the deformation resolution. A cage with fewer control points produces broad, smooth changes; a denser cage gives more local control but can make the form harder to manage.
After Rhino creates the cage, turn on its control points with PointsOn or press F10. You can now select cage points and move them with the Gumball, Move, Scale1D, Scale2D, or other transformation commands. The original object remains associated with the cage and updates immediately as you edit.
A practical technique is to work in orthographic views first. For example, adjust the overall width in the Top viewport, control height in the Front viewport, and refine the side profile in the Right viewport. Then inspect the result in Perspective view. This approach helps prevent unintended movement along an axis you cannot easily see.
