Revit Tip: Intent-Driven Conduit and Cable Tray Modeling in Revit

Model conduit and cable tray with intent, not just geometry. Done right, they drive clean coordination, accurate takeoffs, and predictable installs across disciplines.

  • Standardize before routing
    • Define Conduit and Cable Tray type catalogs (material, nominal sizes, bend radii) in Electrical Settings.
    • Name types consistently (e.g., “EMT 1 in – 3x R” or “Ladder Tray 12x4 – 12 in R”).
    • Verify fitting families (elbows, tees, reducers) match manufacturer radii and height/width transitions.
    • Source and manage Revit licenses and add-ons via NOVEDGE to keep teams aligned on versions.
  • Use runs for smarter control
    • In Revit 2023+, model with Conduit Runs and Cable Tray Runs to group segments/fittings under a single Run ID.
