Bluebeam Tip: Using Polylength Markups for Accurate Route Measurements in Bluebeam Revu

Use Polylength markups in Bluebeam Revu when a measurement follows multiple connected segments, such as curbs, piping routes, fencing, conduit runs, or irregular wall paths. Rather than creating separate length markups and adding them manually, one Polylength markup captures the entire continuous route.

To create one, select Tools > Measure > Polylength, then click each point along the path. Double-click the final point to complete the measurement. Revu automatically calculates the combined length of every segment.

  • Calibrate first: Confirm the drawing scale before measuring. A correctly calibrated PDF is essential for reliable quantities.
  • Follow the actual route: Click at every change in direction. More points produce a more accurate representation of an angled or irregular path.
  • Use the Markups List: Each Polylength measurement appears as a row, where you can review totals, add subjects, assign statuses, and export data for estimating.
  • Apply visual standards: Set colors, line styles, and labels by system or trade—for example, blue for domestic water, red for fire protection, or green for landscaping.
  • Reuse configured tools: Save a properly formatted Polylength markup to a custom Tool Chest tool set. This preserves its appearance, subject, and measurement settings for future takeoffs.

A useful workflow is to create separate Polylength tools for each scope item, then assign consistent subjects and labels. This makes it easier to filter the Markups List and generate clean quantity reports. If a route changes during design review, simply select the markup and drag its control points instead of measuring the entire run again.

For teams performing digital takeoffs, Polylength markups provide a clear visual record of what was measured while keeping totals connected to the drawing. Explore Bluebeam Revu tools, licensing options, and workflow resources through NOVEDGE.
