Bluebeam Tip: Update Revised Drawing Sheets with Bluebeam Revu’s Replace Pages Feature

When a revised drawing set arrives, avoid rebuilding your entire PDF package. Bluebeam Revu’s Replace Pages feature lets you swap outdated sheets with current versions while preserving the rest of the document’s organization.

Before replacing anything, save a backup copy of the original PDF. This gives you a reliable reference if you need to verify revisions later.

  • Open the destination PDF—the file containing the pages you want to update.
  • Go to Document > Pages > Replace Pages.
  • In the dialog box, choose the source PDF containing the revised sheet or sheets.
  • Specify the page range to replace in the current document and the corresponding page range from the revised file.
  • Confirm that the ranges match. Replacing one page with one page is straightforward; replacing a multi-page section requires careful range selection.
  • Select OK and review the updated pages immediately in the Thumbnails panel.

This workflow is especially useful for construction drawing sets, bid packages, submittals, and permit documents where only a few sheets change between revisions. Instead of deleting, inserting, and manually repositioning pages, you can update the affected sheets in a controlled operation.

For best results, use a consistent naming convention for incoming revisions, such as ProjectName_A3.2_Rev02.pdf. Then verify the following after replacement:

  • Page labels and sheet numbers are still logical for your team.
  • Bookmarks and hyperlinks still lead to the intended locations.
  • Existing markups are reviewed carefully, since they may no longer align with revised drawing content.
  • The updated document is saved under an appropriate revision-controlled filename.

If revisions include substantial design changes, consider using Revu’s Compare or Overlay Pages tools after replacement to identify what changed visually. This creates a more dependable review process and helps prevent comments or takeoffs from being carried forward without validation.
