Bluebeam Tip: Standardize Markup Formatting with the Bluebeam Revu Properties Panel

The Properties panel is one of the fastest ways to create consistent, professional-looking markups in Bluebeam Revu. Rather than adjusting colors, line weights, opacity, and text settings one item at a time, use it as your central formatting control.

Start by selecting a markup on the PDF. The Properties panel immediately displays the settings available for that specific tool. For example, selecting a cloud exposes its line color, fill color, opacity, line width, and subject, while selecting a text box provides font, alignment, and text-formatting controls.

• Open it when needed: Access the Properties panel from the Panels menu or use the relevant keyboard shortcut configured in your Revu profile.
• Format before you place: With no markup selected, choose a tool and set its desired properties first. New markups created with that tool will use those settings.
• Standardize existing markups: Select multiple compatible markups to update shared attributes—such as color, line width, or opacity—in one action.
• Use meaningful Subjects: Assign Subjects such as “RFI,” “Architectural,” “Electrical,” or “Field Verify.” These values flow into the Markups List, making sorting, filtering, and reporting more effective.
• Save reliable defaults: After creating a markup style your team uses repeatedly, set it as the default or save it to a Tool Chest tool set for quick reuse.
• Apply a style efficiently: Use Revu’s Apply Properties feature to transfer the appearance of one well-formatted markup to other compatible markups.

A practical workflow is to establish a small visual standard: for example, red clouds for design conflicts, yellow highlights for items requiring review, and green checkmarks for completed work. Configure these styles once in the Properties panel, then save them to a shared Tool Chest. This reduces interpretation errors and gives every review a consistent appearance.
