Ensure every takeoff is defensible by setting and saving custom measurement scales in Bluebeam Revu.
Why this matters:
- Guarantees consistent quantities across sheets and detail callouts.
- Eliminates guesswork on non-standard or metric/imperial plans.
- Speeds up team onboarding with shared presets.
Set and save a custom scale:
- Open the Measurements panel (ruler icon).
- If the sheet lists a scale (e.g., 3/32” = 1’-0” or 1:75), choose Set Scale and enter it directly.
- If the scale is unknown or distorted, choose Calibrate, pick two known points, and enter the real-world distance.
- From the Scale drop-down, Add Preset, give it a clear name (discipline + scale, e.g., “Arch 1/8-in”), and Save.
- Apply the scale to Current Page, All Pages, or Selected Pages in the set.
Handle multiple scales on one sheet:
- Use Viewports in the Measurements panel to draw regions with their own scales (great for details and matchlines).
- Name viewports (e.g., “Plan NTS, Lobby 1/4-in”) so the active scale is obvious in the status bar.
- Lock viewports once verified to prevent accidental edits.
Accuracy and edge cases:
- For stretched scans, use Calibrate with Separate Vertical Scale to account for X/Y distortion.
- Match Measurement Precision and Units to project standards before you start.
- Verify with a known dimension or a printed scale bar on every new sheet.
Team standardization:
- Manage and reorder presets in the Measurements panel so your most-used scales are on top.
- Export your Profile to share presets across the team via your standards library or Studio.
