Bluebeam Tip: Restore Bluebeam Revu Tool Chest and Profiles After Reinstall

Reinstalling Revu? Here’s how to get your custom tools back fast.

  • Before you reinstall (best practice)
    • Open Bluebeam Administrator and run Backup Settings to capture Profiles (.bpx), Tool Sets (.btx), Stamps, Hatch Patterns, Line Styles, Preferences, and Shortcuts. Save the archive outside your user profile (network or cloud).
    • Optionally export Keyboard Shortcuts from the Shortcuts dialog and keep a copy with your backup.
  • After reinstall (you have a backup)
    • Install Revu, then in Bluebeam Administrator choose Restore Settings and select your backup archive. Restart Revu to apply.
    • Set your preferred Profile to Current (Revu > Profiles) and confirm your Tool Sets appear in the Tool Chest.
  • No backup? Try these recovery paths
    • Browse your previous user data: C:\Users\<YourUser>\AppData\Roaming\Bluebeam Software\Revu\<Version>\ (look for Profiles, Tool Chests, Stamps, Hatch Patterns).
    • Copy the folders to the same path on the new install. If needed, import manually:
      • Double‑click .btx files to add Tool Sets.
      • Revu > Profiles > Import to bring back .bpx profiles (this restores custom columns, statuses, line styles, etc.).
    • If you stored resources in a Studio Project or a cloud drive, download and import them from there.
  • Make it future‑proof
    • Point Revu to a cloud‑synced location (Revu > Preferences > File Locations) for Tool Chest, Profiles, and Stamps to simplify recovery.
    • Create a versioned backup before any major upgrade or workstation swap.
  • Quick fixes
    • Run Bluebeam Administrator as an administrator for Restore/Backup.
    • If a profile doesn’t show, set it as Current. If a Tool Set is read‑only, adjust file permissions or uncheck Read‑only in the Tool Chest.
