Use Redaction Preview in Bluebeam Revu to validate exactly what will be permanently removed—before you click Apply.
- Prepare the file
- Save a working copy.
- If the PDF is scanned, run OCR so text redactions capture every instance.
- Open Page Thumbnails and the Markups List for quick navigation and verification.
- Mark sensitive content
- Use Tools > Redaction > Text or Area to mark names, IDs, or images.
- Leverage Search & Redact for bulk terms, phrases, or patterns (emails, account numbers, specs).
- Consider whole-word and case options; include likely spelling variants.
- Preview thoroughly
- Open the Redaction panel and choose Preview Results.
- Pan/zoom each hit; scrutinize partial words, rotated text, small fonts, and column wraps.
- Toggle Preview off/on to compare before/after without committing changes.
- Validate tricky cases
- Check layers; stacked content can reveal text behind images or vector fills.
- Review hyperlinks, file attachments, and stamps; redact or remove if they expose data.
- For scanned drawings, confirm OCR accuracy by spot-checking critical terms.
- Finalize with confidence
- Set appearance (fill color and optional “REDACTED” overlay text) in Properties.
- Click Apply to permanently remove content—this is irreversible.
- Generate a Redaction Summary for the record; archive the redacted file and a secured original.
- Pro tips
- Run Document Inspector to purge hidden data and metadata after redaction.
- Lock permissions to restrict copying/printing per policy.
- Have a peer review the Preview in a Studio Session before applying.
