Bluebeam Tip: Navigate and Manage Drawing Sets with the Thumbnails Panel

The Thumbnails panel is one of the fastest ways to move through a large drawing set in Bluebeam Revu. Rather than scrolling page by page, use thumbnails to see the document structure at a glance, jump directly to a sheet, and manage pages with confidence.

Open the panel by selecting Window > Panels > Thumbnails, or click the Thumbnails icon in the left navigation bar. Each page appears as a small preview, making it especially useful when sheet names are similar or when you need visual confirmation before opening a page.

  • Jump to any sheet: Click a thumbnail to immediately display that page in the main workspace. This is ideal for multi-sheet construction documents, specifications, and closeout packages.
  • Reorder pages visually: Drag a thumbnail to a new location in the list. Revu shows a placement indicator so you can confirm where the page will land before releasing it.
  • Duplicate, delete, or rotate pages: Right-click a thumbnail to access common page-management commands without leaving your current document view.
  • Insert or replace sheets: Use the thumbnail context menu to insert pages from another PDF, add blank pages, or replace outdated sheets during a revision cycle.
  • Manage multiple pages: Hold Ctrl to select individual nonconsecutive thumbnails, or Shift to select a continuous range. Then apply page actions to the entire selection.
  • Use page labels: When page labels are configured, the Thumbnails panel can display meaningful sheet identifiers instead of relying only on sequential PDF page numbers.

A practical workflow is to keep the Thumbnails panel open while reviewing an issued drawing set. Use it to move quickly between architectural, structural, and MEP sheets, then drag revised pages into the correct position as updates arrive. Before distributing the final PDF, scan the thumbnails to catch blank pages, incorrectly rotated sheets, or misplaced cover pages.

Efficient page navigation reduces review time and helps preserve a clean, reliable document set. For Bluebeam Revu licenses, training resources, and workflow guidance, visit NOVEDGE’s Bluebeam collection.
