Bluebeam Tip: MultiView Side-by-Side Drawing Comparison

Boost your review speed by comparing drawings side-by-side with MultiView.

Quick setup:

  • Open the two (or more) PDFs you need to compare.
  • Create multiple views: drag a tab to the right or bottom edge until a docking highlight appears, or use Split View from the View toolbar to form vertical/horizontal panes.
  • Place one sheet in each pane for a true side-by-side workspace. Revu supports multiple panes and MultiView Extended across monitors for large comparisons.

Stay perfectly aligned:

  • Turn on Sync so pan and zoom mirror across panes. This keeps details aligned as you navigate.
  • Match orientation and scale. Rotate pages to the same orientation and verify each sheet’s scale on the status bar; calibrate if needed to keep distances comparable.
  • Use consistent page labels. When sheets share matching labels (or live in a Set), synced navigation jumps to the corresponding page across panes.

Practical workflows:

  • Revisions: Pin the current revision on the left, prior revision on the right. Toggle markups on/off to isolate design changes.
  • Coordination: Compare architectural vs MEP/structural sheets side-by-side; show/hide PDF layers to validate clearances and penetrations.
  • Takeoffs: Keep the plan on one side and details/schedules on the other to confirm specs without losing your takeoff position.

Pro tips:

  • Save your MultiView layout inside a Profile so your workspace loads ready-to-go for each project.
  • Use the Thumbnails panel to navigate; with Sync enabled, both panes follow.
  • On large files, improve performance by flattening heavy markups or optimizing PDFs before starting comparisons.
  • For automated difference detection, pair MultiView with Compare Documents or Overlay Pages, then review the results side-by-side.
