Bluebeam Tip: Discipline-Aware Page Labels for Consistent Plan Set Navigation

Standardize your plan set navigation by creating discipline-aware Page Labels that mirror real-world sheet naming.

  • Decide your schema first: Discipline Prefix (A, S, M, E, C) + Sheet Number + Title (e.g., “A-101 – Floor Plan”). Consistency here pays dividends downstream.
  • Open the Thumbnails panel, select all pages, then choose Create Page Labels. Build labels from:
    • Page Region: Draw a region over the title block fields (Sheet Number, Discipline, Sheet Title). Perfect for mixed sources.
    • Bookmarks: Leverage well-structured bookmarks if they already match your sheet naming convention.
    • File Name: Useful for vendor PDFs that embed discipline and sheet in filenames.
  • Combine sources: Use Page Region for the sheet number and title, then prepend a discipline prefix as static text if not detected automatically.
  • Apply across the set: Repeat for each discipline package (A, S, MEP, etc.) so every page label keeps its context when combined.
  • Use Sets for multi-file projects: Create a Set so discipline Page Labels remain intact while you overlay revisions and add new packages without renumbering.

Why it matters

  • Search, Markups List, and Hyperlinks show Page Labels, making cross-discipline coordination faster.
  • Studio Sessions participants instantly understand context (discipline + sheet) without opening the page.
  • Exported reports and drawing logs look professional and match onsite references.

Pro tips

  • Use OCR on scans before labeling so Page Region reads clean text.
  • Anchor the Page Region tightly around title block fields to avoid pulling rev dates or consultant logos.
  • After labeling, sort the Thumbnails panel by Page Label to visually QA the sequence.
  • When slip sheeting, preserve Page Labels so new revisions drop in without breaking downstream links.
