Bluebeam Tip: Creating and Applying Custom Scales for Accurate Measurements in Bluebeam Revu

In Bluebeam Revu, accurate measurements are essential. When working with drawings that don't have a predefined scale, you can create custom scales to ensure your measurements are precise. Here's how to create and use custom scales in Bluebeam Revu.

  1. Access the Measurement Tool: Open your PDF in Bluebeam Revu. Go to the Measure tab or select a measurement tool from the toolbar.
  2. Calibrate the Drawing:
    • Click on the Calibrate button in the measurement panel.
    • Use a known dimension on the drawing to set the scale. Click on one point, then click on the second point that represents a known distance.
    • Enter the actual distance between these two points.
  3. Create a Custom Scale:
    • After calibration, click on the Scale dropdown menu in the measurement panel.
    • Select Add Scale to create a new custom scale.
    • Name your custom scale for easy identification.
    • Enter the desired units and scale ratio (e.g., 1 inch = 10 feet).
  4. Apply the Custom Scale:
    • Ensure your custom scale is selected in the Scale dropdown menu.
    • Proceed with your measurements; the custom scale will automatically be applied.

Tips:

  • Set as Default: If you're working on multiple pages with the same scale, check Set as Default for Page in the calibration dialog to apply the scale to all pages.
  • Manage Scales: You can manage, edit, or delete custom scales by selecting Manage Scales from the Scale dropdown menu.
  • Switch Between Scales: If working with drawings of different scales, you can easily switch between saved custom scales without recalibrating.

By creating custom scales, you enhance the accuracy of your measurements and streamline your workflow.
