Bluebeam Tip: Create Reusable Batch Scripts in Bluebeam Revu

Automate your repetitive document tasks in Revu with simple, reusable scripts. Here’s a fast path to building, saving, and running your first one.

  • Open the Script Editor: In Revu Complete (formerly eXtreme), go to Batch > Script.
  • Create your workflow: Click Add to insert actions (e.g., Flatten Markups, Reduce File Size, Rotate Pages, Add Page Labels, Apply Security).
  • Configure each step: For every action, set options such as page range (All, Current, Odd/Even, or custom), rotation direction, compression level, or flattening depth.
  • Order matters: Re-sequence commands with the Up/Down arrows. For example, flatten before applying security; label pages before exporting.
  • Save for reuse: Click Save to store your script as a shareable text-based file on a network location or cloud drive.
  • Run safely: Test on a copy first. Use Run to select the target file(s) or an entire folder; confirm your page ranges one last time.

Starter ideas you can build in minutes:

  • Submittal prep: Flatten all markups, add page labels from bookmarks, apply password/security, and compress.
  • Plan rotation cleanup: Rotate all landscape sheets to a consistent orientation and relabel disciplines.
  • Issue set packaging: Insert a cover page, stamp “Issued for Review,” flatten, and export a print-ready set.

Practical tips:

  • Keep scripts modular. Short, focused scripts are easier to validate and combine.
  • Name scripts clearly (e.g., “01_Flatten_Compress” vs. “99_Finalize_For_Issue”).
  • Store a “Test” and a “Production” variant—same steps, different output folders.
  • Document options inside the script notes so teammates know what each step does.
  • Train your team to run scripts from a shared library to ensure consistency across projects.
