Bluebeam Tip: Convert Bluebeam Compare Output into Subcontractor-Ready Review Packages

Turn Bluebeam’s Compare output into a subcontractor-ready review package that’s clear, fast to navigate, and actionable.

  • Run Compare Documents: Tools > Document > Compare. Select your baseline (older) and revision (newer) PDFs. Verify page order, size, and rotation first for accurate results.
  • Preparation tips before comparing:
    • Use Batch Slip Sheet to align page numbering and titles.
    • Normalize rotations (Document > Rotate Pages) and page sizes where needed.
    • Calibrate scale on both sets if measurements will be part of the review.
  • Review the difference markups created by Compare. Standardize Subjects (e.g., Added, Removed, Modified) and assign Status or Responsibility so subcontractors can filter quickly.
  • Generate a clear, navigable report from the Markups List:
    • Open the Markups List, click Summary > PDF Summary.
    • Include Thumbnails and Hyperlinks so each line item jumps to its location on the drawing.
    • Group by Page, then Subject; sort by Responsibility or Trade for targeted reviews.
    • Save the Summary as a separate PDF and package it with the compared drawing set.
  • Add context on-sheet:
    • Place a Legend (Tools > Markup > Legend) to explain colors, subjects, and statuses.
    • Use Callouts to flag high-priority changes or RFIs.
  • Distribute and collect feedback:
    • Share via Studio Sessions for real-time comments and an audit trail.
    • Keep markups unflattened to preserve hyperlinks, sorting, and status updates.

QA checklist for subcontractor readiness:

  • Every change is categorized (Added/Removed/Modified).
  • Hyperlinks in the PDF Summary jump to exact locations.
  • Legend is present and matches your color standards.
  • Filters by Trade/Responsibility are tested and saved.
